Recording News

ASYL

Andy spent five weeks last year in the studio with French punk band Asyl making the smokey, sweaty, passionate music that garnered their debut album much praise on release last year. The band consists of two brothers, Nico and Benji, guitar and drums, who buck the stereotype of battling brothers in bands. They are joined by Antoine on bass and Mathieu, vocals. Collectively they couldn't look more French - cigarettes permanently lit, skinny frames in skinny jeans - and during their time in London and especially London's most ancient pub, Ye Olde Mitre, the studio local, they worked hard at rekindling the auld alliance, befriending the Scottish landlord and eating a lot of Scotch eggs.

The Young Knives

A CD turned up one day, sent by the young knives management. Musically intriguing and haunting, playful but taught, full of dark humour. Cool, strange riffs, inside out drum beats. The band was unsigned, but Andy went in and recorded four tracks in November 2004. This was soon released on Transgressive. Further sessions followed, the final recordings of ‘ Voices of Animals and Men ‘ took place in march 2006 and was released some months later on Warner / Transgressive.

Recent Years

Killing Joke

The killing joke record commenced in May 2002 with andy producing and co-writing with Jazz, Geordie and Youth. Andy programmed the beats for the record, the idea being that at the end they would be replaced with real drums. A total of 13 tracks were completed by November, including a new definitive, version of the track 'wardance'. John, the drummer from System of a Down, played on 3 tracks in LA, just before Christmas. Then Dave Grohl requested that he play drums on the entire record. Due to the Foo Fighters touring commitments the drum session had to wait till march. It then took place in LA, at GrandMaster studios. Mixing was completed in April. The record was engineered by Andy and regular co-engineer Jerry Kandiah. It was released August 2003.

The 13 tracks: Total Invasion, The Death and Resurrection Show, Asteroid, Implant, Blood On Your Hands, Loose Cannon, You'll Never Get To Me, Red Sky, Dark Forces, Inferno, House That Pain Built, Wardance, Zennen.

The Futureheads

The first album is now finished and released. Recording took place in Andy's studio in several sessions and at various times, beginning in November 2002 and continuing through 2003. The first 4 track EP was released in March 2003 with the songs 'Picture of Dorian Grey', 'Cabaret', 'Carnival Kids' and 'Ticket'. It received 5 star reviews throughout the music and national press. The next single 'First Day', was released in August. In the same week that 'First Day', was the national number one independant single, Killing Joke had the national number one independant album. The video for the download only single, 'A to B', reached 3 in the MTV2 NME chart .
